Psychotherapist & Counsellor

You are not a problem to solve

Therapy that honours your experience rather than trying to fix you.

You may be carrying stress, grief, relational strain, or a quiet sense that something has shifted. Therapy offers a space to explore what has shaped you, what no longer serves, and what might now want to emerge.

Psychotherapy

My name is Roni Kahana Zweig. I am a PACFA-registered psychotherapist and counsellor with a background in neuroscience and Gestalt psychotherapy.

My work sits at the meeting point between science and lived experience. I have a PhD in neuroscience and continue to be deeply informed by nervous system theory, and the growing understanding of how our bodies hold and respond to stress, trauma, attachment, and change. Insight alone rarely creates change. It is a beginning, but not the whole process. Transformation happens through what we feel, experience, and integrate in relationship.

I am trained in Gestalt psychotherapy. Gestalt is a present-centred, relational approach. It focuses on what is happening in the here and now - in your body, in your emotions, and in the space between us. The therapist is not a distant expert, but an active participant in the therapeutic relationship. Through awareness and contact, patterns become clearer, and new possibilities can emerge.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked closely with the body. That experience continues to shape how I understand emotional life. Thoughts, feelings and physical sensations are not separate - they inform and influence one another. Often, what we cannot yet express in words shows up in tension, fatigue, restlessness, or withdrawal. Therapy can become a space where those signals are gently listened to.

I believe deeply in client agency. People are not problems to be fixed, but systems that have adapted intelligently to their circumstances. Therapy is not about repairing something broken; it is about updating patterns that once made sense but may no longer serve you. You are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you - offering reflection, challenge, and support - while respecting your pace and choice.

I work with trauma, grief, existential questions, and midlife transitions. Many of the people who come to see me are thoughtful and capable, yet feel stretched, stuck, disconnected, or quietly overwhelmed. Together, we explore what you are carrying, what no longer serves, and what might feel more alive and sustainable.

My practice is grounded, relational, and thoughtful - a space where depth is welcome and change emerges through awareness, honesty, and real contact. Adults from all backgrounds are welcomed.

Services

How I Work

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults (18+), in person, online, or outdoors.

Individual Psychotherapy

60 minutes · $130

One-on-one psychotherapy sessions for adults are 60 minutes and provide a consistent, confidential space to explore what feels difficult, stuck, or unresolved. People seek therapy for many reasons - relationship challenges, trauma, grief, anxiety, life transitions, or a subtle sense that something no longer fits. You do not need a crisis to begin.

In-Person

Held in a private, comfortable setting. The physical presence of another person in the room can deepen awareness and relational contact. For some, this format feels grounding and contained.

Lower North Shore · Sydney CBD · Northern Beaches upon request

Online

Flexible and accessible while maintaining the depth of the therapeutic process. Many people find that working from their own environment supports a sense of safety and openness.

Ecotherapy - Nature as Co-Therapist

90 minutes · $200

Sessions which take place outdoors, where the natural environment becomes an active participant in the therapeutic process. Walking, sitting, or simply being in nature can support nervous system regulation, perspective, and embodied awareness. Nature is not a backdrop but an active participant - offering wisdom and grounding. Ecotherapy may be especially supportive during transitions, periods of feeling overwhelmed, burdened by grief or when words feel insufficient.

Nature as Co-Therapist

Ecotherapy offers a different way of being in therapy. Sessions take place outdoors, where the natural environment is not just a backdrop - it becomes an active participant in the therapeutic process. Walking, sitting, or simply noticing the surroundings can support reflection, embodied awareness, and emotional regulation.

Why It Works

Supports nervous system regulation

Notice patterns of thought, emotion, and bodily sensation

Engages embodied processing when words alone are insufficient

Explore challenges with fresh perspective

Who It May Support

Ecotherapy can be particularly supportive for adults navigating life transitions, grief or loss, trauma recovery, or feelings of disconnection, stuckness, or existential questioning. It is not a "nature cure," but a clinically focused, relational process enhanced by the presence of nature.

Practical details: Sessions are typically 90 minutes. Locations are chosen for privacy, accessibility, and connection to nature. The therapeutic framework remains relational and Gestalt-informed. Suitable for those comfortable walking, sitting, or being outdoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

You do not need to be in crisis to begin therapy. Many people seek therapy during periods of transition, relational difficulty, grief, or when something feels unsettled but hard to name. If you are unsure, you are welcome to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation to explore whether this feels like the right step.

The first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope for, and any questions you may have. I will introduce myself, discuss Gestalt psychotherapy and review how I work. It will be a good opportunity for us to get a sense of each other. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we move at a pace that feels manageable.

Gestalt psychotherapy is a relational, present-centred approach. It focuses on what is happening in the here and now - in thoughts, emotions, bodily experience, and in the therapeutic relationship itself. Rather than analysing from a distance, we explore experience directly, building awareness and choice. Body awareness is also part of Gestalt, referring to the body as a source of information.

Ecotherapy sessions take place outdoors, where the natural environment becomes part of the therapeutic process. Nature can support nervous system regulation, perspective, and embodied awareness. The work remains clinically grounded and relational, with the setting offering an additional dimension.

Most clients attend weekly sessions, especially at the beginning, to create continuity and depth. Over time, frequency can be reviewed together. There is no fixed duration for therapy - some people come for focused work over several months; others engage in longer-term therapy. The length depends on your goals and what feels meaningful.

Research and experience suggest that online therapy can be equally effective for many people. The depth of the work depends more on the therapeutic relationship than on location. We can discuss which format feels most supportive for you.

Yes. All sessions are confidential, with the usual legal and ethical exceptions (such as risk of harm to yourself or others). These will be explained clearly at the beginning of our work together.

60-minute sessions are $130. Ecotherapy sessions lasting 90 minutes are $200. I offer two reduced-fee spaces for those experiencing financial hardship - if cost feels like a barrier, please reach out. Cancellation up until 24 hours before the session is free, after which a full fee will be charged.

I work with individual adults (18+) only.

These terms are often used interchangeably, yet they reflect different areas of focus and training. Counselling typically supports people in navigating specific challenges and is often shorter-term. Psychotherapy involves a deeper exploration of emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and long-standing ways of adapting to the world. Psychology is a broad discipline that includes research, assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention. In reality, there is overlap between these fields. What matters most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and whether the approach resonates with you. My work is grounded in psychotherapy, integrating relational Gestalt practice with neuroscience-informed understanding of the nervous system. I also hold a counselling diploma.

As a PACFA-registered counsellor and psychotherapist, I do not offer Medicare or private health fund rebates. However, my session fee is lower than the typical out-of-pocket cost many clients pay after claiming a rebate. This makes private psychotherapy comparable in cost while offering flexibility in frequency and duration of sessions. If you would like to discuss fees or explore what option may be most suitable for you, you are welcome to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
